You should be thankful it's this way... Some manufacturers build machines with 4 GB of RAM or more, and bundle them with a 32-bit version of Windows Home Edition !

I don't know if Project Tempest works with Windows 7.HiAre there any Jag Emu's out there that play nice with Windows 7? I tried firing one up a while ago and it just died on its arse and was a bit unhappy.. anyone got any to work?
Virtual Jaguar used to have lots of problems under Windows Vista, but IIRC, they did eventually fix it (which should probably make it work for Windows 7 as well), though you had to get it from their source code tree, as it wasn't available as a standard downloadable version. I think there's a topic about it on the official VJ forums.

Do you mean generating the map file ? There's a simple option to add to ALN's command line for that.
Or do you mean something else ?
-
I don't remember anything like this...
Can you post an example of the non-working version ? I'll run it in PT and VJ and post the results.
-
Mmmh, strange... Does it happen in Virtual Jaguar and Project Tempest too ?

The project is "on hold" at the moment, due to myself getting a new job that takes a lot of time, and problems with the manufacturer I had previously chosen.
I'll restart it as soon as I can

The rules are pretty relaxed. You can use whatever supporting code/library you want, including your own of course. Nobody expects anyone to write a complete Jaguar from scratch in 24 hourswhat are the rules regarding such a challenge? Are you allowed to use your own library routines? (say startup code, object list code, joypad reading code)? or do you have to code everything from scratch ?

I don't know of any Mac-based development tools, but you may try to recompile SMAC and SLN and see if they work

Yes, interlaced mode is confusing... (and the timing stuff is even worse).
Thanks for posting your findings

Dunno, but you can use the .incbin directive instead, and put the name of the binary file you want to include in your source code. It's more convenient, anywaysThe only dangling issue now is how do I emulate aln's "-i fileName" flag (Includes the binary data contained in the file specified by "fileName" in the link.

The RGC association is happy to announce the upcoming AC 2011, which will take place on April 16th and 17th.
This 6th convention dedicated to 8, 16 and 32-bit vintage computers will be located in Congis (France) in a friendly atmosphere. As usual, software and hardware presentations will be featured, as well as the yearly Medieval Mayhem tournament (on Atari 2600). You'll also be able to discover and play freely on machines from those iconic brands.
For 3 years, the AC has included a gaming-centered speed-coding contest. Previous editions have seen the birth of ambitious projects. A new challenge in 2011? We'll let you know more soon.
If you're an Atari, Amiga, Commodore, Amstrad, MSX, Thomson (or any other brand you'd like to promote) enthusiast, you'll be welcome.
Be sure to circle the date on your calendar not to miss this must-attend event for the retro-gaming community.

What are you thinking of ?

Welcome

Although I've never used it, Virtual Jaguar has some debugging code in the source that may be useful to you. There's some info about here.
I believe that code is not enabled by default, which means you'll probably need to get the source from this page, tweak it a bit and recompile it.
Keep in mind that the Jaguar emulators are currently far from ideal ; some things work on real hardware and not in emulators, and vice-versa.
You'll find other useful tools for development in this topic.

Yes, as you say, there are undocumented timeouts. IIRC, when uploading a program, you can wait as much as you like between longwords, but the delay between each byte in a longword must be quite short, otherwise the Jag side times out. There is also a different protocol for commands (such as switching automatically to 4-bit or 8-bit mode, dumping memory, etc.) which has even more severe timeouts.
Basically, the protocol seems to have been designed for machines with strict timings, and the timeouts were probably introduced so as to provide some sort of sync recovery in case there's a transmission error. It was acceptable in the days of monotasking Atari STs and DOS-based PCs with low-latency hardware access, but it's a real problem on modern multitasking computers with USB devices, which cause unpredictable timings.
For the Catnip project, I had to implement the protocol handling in a microcontroller to get reliable results.

I have the source code for 1.05.0, which I got from GT Turbo, that got it by meeting Bastian Schick in person. Unfortunately, I don't know if he's OK with releasing it publicly (I suspect it's not the case, since he didn't put it on his webpage, unlike most of his code) ; and we can't ask him, since he's been unreachable for several years

Another problem is that the code is rather puzzle-like, and the comments are in German.
Do you have any particular reason for using 1.05 instead of 1.06 ? I did lots of testing for the old Catnip project, but all of it has been on 1.06, and I know that there are some differences in the protocol between both versions (though IIRC, the Catnip worked fine with the BJL-loader built into Protector:SE, which I *think* is pre-1.06).

I (finally !) got a quote from the manufacturer a few days ago. There's a 358.80€ fixed cost (regardless of the number of carts manufactured) to set up the production, plus 28.11€ per board for the parts, PCB manufacturing and soldering ; it goes down to 25.12€ per board if we get more than 200 boards manufactured. The price still isn't 100% sure, because the company has to consult the PCB supplier to know if the silver/gold plating and beveled edges are going to add an extra cost ; that's why I hadn't announced it publicly yet.
One of our Reboot friends has bought a large number of carts shells ; depending on how many people order one, the price should be about 2 or 3 euros.
So, assuming the prices are final, one cart + shell would cost 35€ if we get 100 of them manufactured, 30€ if we get 200 of them manufactured, and probably less for more.

Thanks for the extensive report, sh3

I've just received a reply from GT Turbo. His Internet connection is down. He will be sending the packages next week

He didn't contact you yet ?
I know he's just switched jobs, but still... I'll call him

Same thing here -- the RMW effects in LadyBug don't work correctly in PT 0.95 for me.
