  1. Happy New Year everyone!

Agree with GT - Jaguar releases will again take a step up in both number and quality this year if what DrTypo and GroovyBee have hinted at are anything to go by :-)

Jaguar - the stand-out homebrew platform in 2013? :poulpe:

  2. Reboot of Jagware and RGCD are pleased to announce the imminent release of Kobayashi Maru:Final.

KM:F is an updated and fine-tuned version of Reboot's freely-released game of a year ago. The game is our version of an arcade favourite from the early 80s. Use your rotary controller (adjustable to allow for sensitivity of your particular spinner) or regular Jaguar pad to steer your warpship in this arcade space shooter, battling countless drones and huge boss craft in ever-tougher waves of attack. Featuring subtle use of the Jaguar's RMW graphics capabilities, background graphics blend together as you tear around in the upper atmosphere over 4 worlds.

This version of the game has updated graphics, new sound effects, webscores and of course supports Memory Track game saves. The physical copy comes cellophane wrapped in a standard DVD box with full colour printed inlay and full face printed, glass-mastered CD, direct from the factory (100% professionally produced in the UK). Cost and shipping charges will be available on the RGCD site once the game becomes available (should be by the end of the weekend (Sun 2nd Dec) if everything goes to plan). Attendees at the recent eJagfest 2012 event were offered the game early at a discount as they supported the super-limited mini format release of the original version last year - thanks to all who picked it up at the weekend.

Why are we now using a publisher and not making/selling games ourselves?

We have limited time to work on our games for various reasons - we'd rather use that time making the games instead of assembling boxes and burning discs etc. Reboot's future releases on CD will be sold to generate a profit to be used towards the huge costs involved in manufacturing our (Jagware) flashcarts and allowing us to create bigger, better games in future (for example Rebooteroids) and offer them at a really good price without the need for pre-orders etc. Supporting our releases via our new publisher will hopefully help us reach our target of producing our first jagtopus flash cart-based games in the new year.

  3. very nice conservation project !

but maybe giving all the version of a file is a bit too much ? (especially when cdi takes that much space)

As Jiffi is here to do the job, maybe keep the original file and let the user use jiffi to convert the file in desired format. (I doubt for example that a lots of people will use the jagserver files)

Because it begins to get a bit messy in the folder :/

Agreed it is messy, but there are ways around that in future.

As for JiFFI use - some people can't use it, they don't have a windows machine or are too scared of it :P

  4. Should ask Gordon to release that old version of Painter for free now.

Is there a NEW version of painter? Besides the BJL demo rom and CD release?

yeah there have been various cart releases by OMF & Gaztee I think, I think some people used the ST level designer to boost the levels it has (although it's so damn hard I'm not sure how many people will have seen them).

  5. Not actively. The game works and can be played all the way through (as CJ & Neo have done with the trainer mode active). But the corrupted videos need some attention to do the game justice - every corrupt frame needs touching up by hand. There's a few way to do this including reverse engineering the cinepak video end re-encoding it, or what Neo tried to do - capture it and edit it (results are obviously lossy). By far the best way would be to capture the footage using an emulator. VJ CD emulation is something that shamus will get around to looking at in time. Once VJ is up to the task, there's still a lot of work to be done by whoever is brave enough to hand-fix all those videos with glitchy graphics (the audio is not a problem, we've seen to that) but I think Neo & myself would give it a go.

Maybe by the time that is all done there will be some kind of jagcd replacement device using SD cards or similar and the game won't just crap out 'cause it's running from CD-R :poulpe:

  6. i thought raiden had issues with pal as well?!?

Well, there's the regular version that looks very letterbox on PAL (the version I have - I paid a *lot* on import as soon as it came out ;-) ) Then there's an E-version that is full screen for PAL. That's just from memory. I think there's a few carts with E-versions like this.

  7. As for price - they've said they've allowed enough to cover the cost of their Alpines, EPROM burner and other stuff, and they've still come in at the same price as the last homebrew on cart, so it seems they did quite well (especially considering the quality of the physical production). So potentially, later releases will be cheaper.

The PAL/NTSC problem is an object displacement issue (as I understand it), the kind of thing you get quite often before you get a good skeleton framework set up to work with. It's not present in stuff they've worked on after this, so shouldn't be an issue in future. Can't blame rush for not wanting to go back and work on this further, he's pretty much drawn a line under this game and wants to get on with other things - know the feeling.

  8. As promised, our new little side-scrolling shmup is released today at Sommarhack party in Sweden. They'll be far too busy BBQing anything they can lay their hands on to play the few Jaguars hidden among all those expanded ct6x falcons so we though we'd better make a post here and offer it for download.

Head over to the new Reboot website for further details and downloads in all formats. There are also two different DVD covers and accompanying CD labels to grab, courtesy of Felyx - thanks to him!

Massive thanks to Pac Man Plus whose discussions & assets helped get this game off the ground in the first place and whose 7800 game inspired our own - cheers, Bob!

Are you ready to button bash like it's 1981?!

  9. But if French translation is done by Gt Turbo will it not be full of bugs? :D :D :D

Excellent idea.. perhaps I should look into getting my SE manual translated? Or as this is only really of use for French jag devs is there sufficient demand for me to give someone that task?

I think it's more useful for the translations on the boxes for those that want a 100% authentic-looking product... all the .fr devs do English better than most Brits and Americans.
